SunTrust Bank operates 1,670 branches in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Washington, DC. It also offers online banking services to its customers. SunTrust Bank came into being in 1985 when Trust Company of Georgia, originally founded in 1891, and SunBanks, Inc., merged. Soon after the bank purchased Third National Corporation of Tennessee to become one of the country’s largest holding companies.
Account Incentives
The main account incentive for SunTrust is its rewards program. Accounts that have check cards are enrolled in a rewards program, and customers earn points whenever they use their check cards. Those points are then used to purchase items, including travel vouchers, merchandise, and even gift cards. It does not currently offer any incentives to open accounts, although these could be offered in the future. In the past they have offered $50 gift cards or a $50 donation to your favorite charity for opening an account.
Unique Offerings
Personal banking deposits at SunTrust Bank are insured for at least $250,000. Many customers come to the bank for its free checking service, which allows unlimited check writing, a free check card, and enrolment in online baking and bill pay services. The Live Solid banking program allows customers to set up automatic savings deposits. The company also has a High Net Worth banking department designed for those customers with high amounts of money to deposit. Business banking clients enjoy payroll services, and a wide range of lending products designed for the business banking customer. The bank also has a corporate and institutional banking department.

SunTrust Bank is known for its friendly employees. Customers who bank at the local branches find their tellers to be attentive, knowledgeable, and thorough. The bank offers a free checking account that is, in fact, free, provided the account does not get overdrawn. One complaint about SunTrust is the bank’s high overdraft fees for checking account customers. This problem is avoided, of course, by not allowing the account to drop below zero.
Customers who experience a problem with their SunTrust accounts point out that the customer service department works quickly to resolve the problem and credit any fees charged by mistake, which is another plus for the company. In general, SunTrust is a medium sized bank with friendly customer service and traditional banking products. it has a variety of products to meet most customer’s needs, and provides a private banking service for customers with high amounts of money to deposit. This combination of products and good customer service makes it a good choice for most banking customers.
I have had a checking account as well as a student loan with this bank. The day to day dealings with the bank are about the same as most banks. Nice bank tellers, free checking account, online options, rates seem comparable etc.
The location rating I give is low simply as a warning that branches exist only in the southeast. If there is no chance of you leaving this region ignore this rating otherwise note thatnthere have been several instances where the customer service has said they can be no help and my only option was to travel several states to a branch.
Finally the support. Again, for the day to day not significant problem. The day they sent my private information to a random person and I attempted to solve the problem, I was transfred to departments that had nothing to do with my issue (mortgage dept?) or hung up on. Later there was an additional issue with my student loan where they were rude, unhelpful, and even placed a notice on my account to stop answering my question.
Needless to say, I will never do business with them in the future and I would highly recommend you avoid them also.
